Additional Liberty City Stories Details from Play2Mania

Play2Mania Preview

Ero Senin from the forums has posted new scans and information about Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The new information comes from a spanish-language magazine by the name of Play2Mania. The preview is 4 pages long and is based on information that the spanish publication received at E3, where they were one of the only publications in the whole world to see the game in action.

Rockstar says that GTA: Liberty City Stories will be better than GTA3 in some aspects. It will have less pop-ins, a better picture quality and more cars and people in scenes. Rockstar says the PSP GTA will be superior to the PS2 GTAs. They also stressed that the game is not a remake of GTA3. GTA: LCS is a totally new game expect for the map, which is based on GTA3's Liberty City. Here is some additional information covered in the preview (as translated by gameXploiter):

  • There wil be no flyable vehicles (planes/helicopters).
  • Tony, the main character, is controlled by the analog stick.
  • Camera view is changed with the select button.
  • Wardrobe changes are possible.
  • The graphics and draw distance are better than those of GTA3 (comparison likely based on PS2 version).
  • The Liberty City map will be updated with new areas and landmarks.
  • "R3" missions such as firefighter, ambulance are standard in every GTA game and will be included.
  • All the vehicles from GTA3 and the motorcycles from GTA Vice City will be drivable.
  • Vehicles will have "better reflections" than in San Andreas (comparison likely based on PS2 version).
  • The storyline missions will take about as long to complete as the ones in Vice City.
  • Unique jumps and hidden packages, customary to GTA games, will be available.

The discussion is open at the Liberty City Stories forums.

World's First Details on GTA Liberty City Stories

Posted by DigitalD at 20:15. Category: General

The new Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK has had the first look at Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories in this month's edition. A subscriber on our forums brings us the first real details:

  • You will play as Tony Cipriani, who you might remember as being one of your bosses in GTA3.
  • Tony Cipriani is back in Liberty City after laying low. Don Salvatore puts him back to work.
  • The game takes place approximately 3 years before GTA3 (around 1998).
  • The game will be in full 3D, just as we have "come to expect."
  • There are screenshots of Tony in casual combat clothes, but one shows him in a suit. Therefore changing clothes looks like a feature.

Thanks to eightySeventh on the edge forums for the first details. Expect more information as clearer scans and more previews come along. Remember, Rockstar said at E3 that they are showing the game to a select number of publications from different countries. There should still be a German and American publications coming with similar information.

Here are details of two missions that were shown to OPSM2UK.

We're rolling through the red [light] district, and true enough, it's familiar but different. We're outside Luigi's strip club, Sex Club 7 - the first place you visit in GTA3 - but Luigi isn't here yet. It's Paulie's Revue Bar and is run by JD O'Toole, a slimy pervert with links to the triads. He wants to get in with the Leone mob instead, so he tips you off about a Triad attack in St. Marks. It's nearby, so we head to AmmuNation and load up on Uzis. We rock up in the Sentinel, and Tony's henchman jumps out and stand guard while we decide to head off the attack before it arrives. Two waves of angry triads and several drive-by shootings later, a bulletproof patriot reaches the casino and plants a bomb. Boom! It wrecks the place, but doesn't demolish it. It's not enough for the gangsters. Relentless, they send another truck packed with explosives, parking it nearby - this one will bring the whole place down if it blows. How can we save the casino? Naturally we leap in the bomb truck and drive off, paying great attention to the timer and safe-distance meters. Once clear we park up and let it detonate near some innocent bystanders, saving considerable damage to Mafia property. Phew.

We're back in the Sentinel, crusing over to Don Salvatore's mansion. He wants us to retrieve some cash from the docks at Atlantic Quays, so we take a dirt bike from his driveway and head down the hill. Across the water we can see Shoreside Vale- the draw distance is extremely impressive. Unfortunately, those bomb-happy Triads have rigged the warehouse, so collecting the cash packages is a race against time - allwhile fighting running battles. In the nick of time we dash out and the building goes up, damaging everything nearby. Ignoring the smoking cars, we steal a chopper, gassing it up and weaving madly to avoid the incoming wave of Belly Up fish vans. Eventually, with only minor civilian casualties, we reach the safety of Salvatore's mansion once again.
